    I usually try to schedule on days when I have no classes so I don't have to rush to a session after a class, or rush from a session to a class. I try to arrive at the WTC 90 minutes to 2 hours before my session time to stroll along Wall St. reminiscing my past life there. Then I'll go to the downstairs chapel at Our Lady of Victory church and meditate in solitude. My next stop was J&R Music World (now defunct) and then a leisurely walk to the Fortress. I'll try to arrive 20 to 30 minutes early and sit on the bench across the street and try to relax and mentally prepare for my session. If I'm doing a "Mystery Mistress" session, I'll sit faced away from the Fortress entrance as not to inadvertently see her arrive (happened once). Five minutes to session time, I'll call and then it's past the point of no return.

    I do this all the time in the gym. Watching people shrugging their shoulders as the adjust the sliding bar to a heavier weight is priceless.

    I usually try to inject some humor into my sessions. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not. One of my favorites is to look over the shoulder of my Mistress when the door is behind her and shout "Who the heck are you?" Except for Mistress Vu (who gave me a knock off the tomfoolery look), every Mistress spun around to find nobody there. I usually will get a beating with both of us laughing at that point. I once did a session where I told jokes and was judged and punished according to my merits. In one of my early sessions, I was tied face down on the table in the steel room by Mistress Zhao. She placed 3 implements next to me and then left the room to get something. While she was gone, I maneuvered myself on top of the implements. When she returned, she started looking around for her implements until she finally asked me if I saw where she put them. When I replied that I didn't know and that maybe I was on top of them, she "rewarded" me.

    Establishing the possibility or likelihood of face slaps early in a session is a good precedent. In my first session with Mistress Ree, she gave me two face slaps early on that stunned me, and even though I didn't get any more, I flinched every time she moved her hand.

    I love being warned that it's "going to hurt" in sessions. Once, after fetching the wrong paddle for my Mistress, She calmly said "No, the other one. It hurts more." And it did.
