Mistress Tran
Here is a sculpture that I really enjoy....there is much that can be said about this sculpture. Is she pushing him away or embracing him? Is he begging or just holding? Sculpture by Gustav Vigeland

It is hard to say...at first glance it looks like she is pushing away and he is holding on, but it is hard to say. Either way, thought provoking...do you know where this sculpture is? slavedog
Any idea where this sculpture is located? I would guess Scandinavia I see the sculpture as a woman - maybe a Mistress - dismissing a man - maybe a slave. The sculpture is located in Sapporo - Japan In Vigelands homeland Norway...there is a park in Oslo...containing more than 200 of his sculptures. In fact I believe Vigeland is showing us a loving couple. In 1898 Vigeland wrote: "The sexual drive is magnificent, sublime! It has been covered in darkness by misuse. What makes it so filthy in the eyes of the old is that nothing has been so defiled, so slandered... I think it is a grand law of nature." I would imagine the design could be open to much interpretation depending on how you view it.

Is she pushing him away or embracing him? Is he begging or just holding? Sculpture by Gustav Vigeland i think he is clinging to what he desires more than anything, probably begging too. This is in stark contrast to many of the world statues that depict man as strong an invincible. i see it as vivid expression of where the power really is and always has been.
